Movie Love

As in.. A Movie I Love.. not A Love in the Movies..

I love the movie, A Lot Like Love. I was watching it again tonight. If you haven't seen it.. I recommend it! I'm not usually a huge Ashton fan.. but he's really cute in it, and I adore Amanda Peet. A great film about how plans don't always work out the way you thought.. and that it can be a good thing. :)

My favorite quote is 'if you aren't willing to look stupid you don't deserve to be in love.'
Oh, and I love the music from it too.. it's got to be a killer Soundtrack.
Anyway.. wanted to shout it out.. Great Movie :)
Have you seen it?

a few of my favorite things

...these, if not helped make up who i am.. at least, influenced me and/or reflect part of my personality..

Photobucket almost famous... I love Penny Lane, I can totally relate, she's trying to find herself and love and she's such a tremendous character, independent, brave and a bit wild, but still vulnerable and scared to let go and be who she is on her own.. "I always tell the girls to never take it seriously.. if you never take it seriously you never get hurt, if you never get hurt you always have fun.. and if you ever get lonely you just go to the record store and visit your friends.." and some amazing music! lets go to Morocco

Photobucket eternal sunshine of the spotless mind... such a cool movie, i love the way it's filmed, such great cinematography, and what an original idea.. what if we could erase painful memories or people who've hurt us.. should we.. and watching a relationship backwards.. seeing it go from the messy, complicated hard place it's become, to the middle extreme happy place, to where it all started and what attracted them to each other in the beginning.. always makes me secretly fear i'm losing that crazy girl i used to be... and want to dye my hair some crazy color, lol

Photobucketlost in translation.. a lot of people found this movie slow and/or boring.. i LOVED it.. such a different movie, but it captures such real moments, and life can be slow.. it's not all scripted and action packed.. and the loneliness you can feel coming from Scarlett's character, I think a lot of people can relate to the isolating feeling you can get when you first get married.. you are becoming a different person, and trying to combine who you were, and who you are trying to become with another persons past and present.. it can be a hard time.. plus, it's filmed so beautifully.. and the way she connects on such a level with someone she's never met before, and her poise and self assurance.. anyway.. it's an odd little movie.. but i adore it..
(i just realized all those movies are rated R, lol.. in my defense.. I have a clearplay)

Books...
Photobucket Eat Pray Love by Melissa Gilbert.. how amazing would it be to have the time, money and resources to just immerse yourself in other cultures and figure out who you are.. I love that she goes to 3 different places, and she does, she eats, she prays, and in the end.. she loves.. i love how much of herself she puts into it.. the honesty in which she describes some of the hardest times in her lives, and how she found her way out.. i admire her courage, for to ignore the people of the world asking her if it wasn't selfish to take this time for herself, and to do what she needed to do for her.. how many of us are willing to do that? I totally recommend those out there who are still searching for their path, before you make the major decisions in your life, take the time to look inside yourself and explore the options around you.. my one biggest regret of my single days is not taking the time to do a semester abroad, i always thought, it's too expensive, it's too irresponsible.. but looking back, it would have added such a small amount to my student loans and added such a life experience.. it really would've been priceless.. so that's my recommendation to those out there searching for what to do next.. let me live vicariously through you.. ;)

Photobucket Love Languages/Men are from Mars/Leadership and Self Deception/Proper Care.. Husbands/Procrastinator's Handbook.. okay, it's no secret.. i love these 'self-improvement' books, i mean, i do have a degree in psychology, lol.. i think that there are some great ones out there, which offer great insights to how and why we do the things we do, and how to change our thinking about how and why other people do what they do. I believe that we should always be working towards bettering ourselves, none of us is perfect, we can all use some help. I find myself going back to the ones that have really helped me over and over again as i need more help, or forget to do what i had learned..

Photobucket
The Screwtape Letters..
what a profound, insightful and still entertaining look into how Satan and his minions must see us. It is so clever, and I was captivated while reading. So much of it was so obvious that it could easily be missed. I think this should be a must read, and the audio book is read by John Lithgow, how can you beat that? :) It's hard to believe that C.S. Lewis was an atheist at one time.. but then i guess he would have a good point of view from the other side, and how Satan's tricks can work.

anyway.. thanks for listening.. of course there are many other movies and books which i love.. maybe i'll talk about some of them later.. but these were especially important to me

Another Personality Test

"Your personality is as friendly and appealing as strawberry ice cream (especially the kind with chunky bits of real fruit). You've got a slightly sarcastic sense of humor, and you rarely stress out or take things too seriously. You are cute and sweet, but with a mischievous side. You are a bit of a troublemaker, but only because you're determined to avoid a plain vanilla life."

I love these things! I totally think this me :)
What's hilarious is... i hate strawberry ice cream, lol.

Figuring out who i am..

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.. who the heck am i anyway..
becoming a mom definitely changes how you see yourself, you are prone to losing yourself in your new identity. And it seems I've been searching for myself all my life.. searching for myself and for validation of whoever that turns out to be.. So I've decided that this post is my declaration of who am i.. or think i might be.. today.. :)

Here's what i have so far:

I am a nice person
I am silly
I love to laugh, dance, sing, prance, twirl, stand on furniture
and giggle endlessly

I am a city girl
I adore odd movies others don't get
I love music
I think the lyrics of a song are more important than the melody..

I am intelligent
I like to think about why people do things..
i analyze everything
I am liberally minded, by which i mean that i think people are always more important than money and everyone deserves an equal chance for opportunities and happiness.
I am flaky
I need to hear that I am wanted
I love being the hostess, making people happy is my goal
I take on more than I should
I am messy
I love books
I make friends with fictional characters and try to learn something new from each one
I like using words like precocious, ardent and hitherto
I will go out of my way for the people i care about

I am a touchy feely person
I love hugs that start at a run, sitting right next to each other even if there is room to spread out and laying your head on someone's shoulder
I am not cool
I am okay with not being cool.. 99% of the time

I hope this doesn't come off as weird (something else I am from time to time), I enjoyed making this list.. sometimes it's nice to recognize the unique combination that is you :)

Fun Quiz

Thanks to my bff Anna for this fun quiz :) I'm not sure if I'm really an Emma, but I'd love to meet Mr. Knightley!

I am Emma Woodhouse!

Take the Quiz here!

You are Emma Woodhouse of Emma! You like being the queen of your social circle (small and provincial as it may be), and feel it's your duty to help those less influential than you. You often meddle in the affairs of others, though you do it with a pure heart. You are often deluded in your flights of fancy, but your good intentions and creative spirit make you someone anyone could like.

The Future

and now.. the future

In 10 yrs I would like to
have tom's dreams fulfilled of retiring before 40, be well off enough that we can travel, not worry about the bills, and have some side job i can do now that our 3-4 children are in school, that uses my degree in psychology, is challenging and fulfilling, but still not take enough time and energy that it takes away from my family.. oh, and a lady that comes in and cleans my house twice a week :D

In 5 yrs from now.......
live in a different house.. maybe a different state, we'd really like to get out of Utah before she hits school. We don't want her to be a Utah kid. I really hope I don't offend anyone by this, i know lots of great people from Utah. But we also know a lot of people that take the church for granted, are afraid of anyone who isn't LDS, and judge you if you disagree at all with the way they think things should be done. Anyway, sorry for the tangent.. We've always said we wanted to move out of state... we're just not sure where we'd go, we like Seattle, but think both our families would be pretty unhappy with us for moving that far away.. ok.. besides location i'd like tom to have less stressful job and be able to spend more time with us. And have one more child.. and be thinking about trying for #3

In 1 yr from now.
I'd like to not be pregnant yet, watching Ainsley grow, have a husband that's happy in his job. Go on a cruise or some other cool trip for our 5 yr anniversary. Have a happy, healthy little girl.

Tomorrow.....
i'll be watching conference with the Christensen's and eating yummy french toast his mom makes before driving home again

5 things I would like to do in the future.
get my masters
learn to cook really well
travel the world
learn a new language
learn to sew

the 5 people i tag are: (for both past and present)
Anna W
Anna R
Shana
Kirty
Cristi

The Past

okay, i've seen this both ways, so here it goes... first.. the past

What I was doing 10 Years ago.... I graduated from high school in Texas, and moved to Cedar City for the rest of the year. I got engaged and then unengaged. I also met my silly Thomas, as a friend of my fiance's friends, this was pre-mission. Who knew what would happen years later :)

What I was doing 5 years ago..... I was in my last year of college. I took the last semester off from work and just did an extra student loan to concentrate and graduate. It was a couple months before Tom and I would start dating for the last, and probably most real time.

What I was doing 1 year ago....... I had just found out I was pregnant!!! After trying for 2 years it actually happened! Thank you Clomid :)

What I was doing yesterday..... I drove to Tom's family cabin to spend conference weekend with the Christensen's. Ainser slept the whole way! Woohoo! And Fabulous Shana did my hair (just wait till you see pictures!)

5 places I'd rather be.... (well since i'm at the cabin right now, this is harder)
1. London
2. Italy
3. Cruise
4. Elsewhere in England
5. With my mom

5 treats/snacks I love...
1. Chocolate Chip Cookies
2. Chocolate Souffle
3. French Toast with fresh berries and butter cream sauce
4. Fruit Pizza
5. Strawberry Shortcake

What I would do with 100 million dollars...
I would pay off our mortgage and my student loans, buy a new house and a new car. I would buy my mom a big nice house with room for all her kids and grandkids and put enough money in an account that she can live off the interest. I'd take a couple months and travel the world with my husband and daughter. I'd give a 10k to all my friends for christmas!

5 favorite TV shows...
1. the office
2. good eats
3. judging amy
4. friends
5. ace of cakes

My Personality

In one of my psychology classes we talked a lot about testing, and different personality tests. The Myers-Briggs seemed to be one of the more accurate and better tests in a category that's mostly just fluff. I always loved taking personality tests, and found these to be very true in my experience. So here's mine:
BTW: ENFP = Extroverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving

You Are An ENFP

The Inspirer

You love being around people, and you are deeply committed to your friends.
You are also unconventional, irreverent, and unimpressed by authority and rules.
Incredibly perceptive, you can usually sense if someone has hidden motives.
You use lots of colorful language and expressions. You're quite the storyteller!

In love, you are quite the charmer. And you are definitely willing to risk your heart.
You often don't follow through with your flirting or professed feelings. And you do break a lot of hearts.

At work, you are driven but not a workaholic. You just always seem to enjoy what you do.
You would make an excellent entrepreneur, politician, or journalist.

How you see yourself: compassionate, unselfish, and understanding

When other people don't get you, they see you as: gushy, emotional, and unfocused

The parts I think are the most true are
"You love being around people, and you are deeply committed to your friends.
You are also unconventional, irreverent, and unimpressed by authority and rules."
and
"When other people don't get you, they see you as: gushy, emotional, and unfocused"
especially that last one.
